From the Pottsville Republican-Herald, an article about the team and Shane Edwards:
JIM THORPE – Shane Edwards was rehearsing Monday night for a skit for Jim Thorpe’s pep rally this week.
He wouldn’t reveal details but did make a promise.
“It’s kind of top secret,” Edwards said. “It’ll be entertaining.”
While the pep rally skit may remain a secret until today, the cat’s certainly out of the bag on Edwards’ prowess on the football field.
Edwards has emerged as one of the area’s top backs, leading the Anthracite Football League in rushing at 922 yards on 177 carries with an area-leading 13 touchdowns.
He and the Olympians will take their act on the road tonight on the carpet at Schuylkill Haven’s Rotary Field for an AFL battle that could help clear up the muddied District 11 Class A and Class AA playoff pictures a little bit more.

Senior Jon Fritz catches a pass during the 18-12 win over Mahanoy Area. More pictures in the photo store.
The Olympians came out of the locker room at half-time ready to play football. They were down 6-0 at the half and found the end zone in the third quarter. The game went into over-time with each team scoring and missing the extra point. The second over-time, though, Mahanoy fumbled the ball and Thorpe recovered. We scored during our possession with Phil Schron punching it in for six! Congratulations boys!
Tough game but we came out with a win, 21-14. Everyone had a good game but especially Phil Schron, Renard Tebron, Tyler Mangold, Sean Green and Josh Dean.

Despite tons of penalties, the Olympians beat Shenandoah at home 24-6. It was homecoming and we’re all glad the field sort of held up. Now there’s three weeks till Marian comes to Olympian Stadium!

It was a hot night but Olympian Stadium was packed with football fans. The team did not disappoint pulling out a W over Panther Valley, 14 – 0. The fans came to see a football game and they got one. Great job guys! And thanks to all the fans for cheering on the team. We appreciate your enthusiasm and support for the football team and what the games mean to the entire school.
Did you know the concession stands raise money for the Senior Class and other clubs? Our football team and the people who support it support all of these other organizations, too. THANK YOU!

From the Times-News:
Through the first two weeks of the season, the Jim Thorpe football team has relied heavily on its running game.
The Olympians have run the ball a total of 87 times for 427 yards in their victories over Tamaqua and Reading Central Catholic while attempting to pass on just 15 occasions.
It is easy to see from the numbers that Mark Rosenberger’s first priority is to establish a running attack. The Jim Thorpe head coach will attempt to do the same this week. Except this time around it will be much, much tougher.
The Olympians will travel to North Schuylkill this Friday to compete in this week’s Game of the Week. Both teams enter the contest 2-0 and are averaging 329 yards-per-game on offense. However, neither offense will be the most dominant group on the field. That honor belongs to the Spartans’ defense.
