Tough loss ends Olympians’ season

No one expected Jim Thorpe to give Northern Lehigh a run for its money but the Olympians did just that on Saturday night ending the first half with a score of 14-13. The Bulldogs eventually overpowered the Olympians and won 35-19 but Jim Thorpe was successful in stopping No. Lehigh’s two best players, Kern and Remalley. Great job guys!

Return of Red Swarm

The Jim Thorpe Red Swarm stops #15 Francis Lally.

On a perfect night for football Marian Catholic fans thought they had a W before the game started. But, Jim Thorpe’s Red Swarm defense and Awesome Offense ended that assumption.

After an even first half (13-7) the Olympians dominated the field with 291 total offensive yards to Marian’s 183. JT QB Corey Cinicola connected with Kysheem Lynch for a 25-yard touchdown, Terry Moll, Chris DeMuro (60-yard pass), Tom Ferguson (18-yard pass) and Lynch again in the third quarter for a 40-yard pass.

The Olympian win may position Jim Thorpe for some post-season play. They must all show up next Friday at home, though, and stuff the Lehighton Indians just like they corralled the Colts before we think about playing into November.

Freshman & Jr High vs Lehighton

Game photos are here. The Freshman team closed the season with a victory over Lehighton 19-6. The Freshman Red Swarm defense dominated another game forcing several turnovers. Sean Green had 2 interceptions and Shawn McHose had one. Stunts by NG John Fritz & LB Conner Jamison kept the Indian offense from getting on track. On offense the Olympians scored 3 TDs (Justin Cannalley, Terry Moll & Shawn McHose).

Freshman Team Shuts Down Colts

The Olympian Freshman football team defeated Marian Catholic 21-0 on Monday. Thorpe scored 3 rushing TDs (2 by Shawn McHose and I by Justin Canalley). The star of the game was the swarming Jim Thorpe defense. Terry Moll & Sean Green each had interceptions, Green’s came in the endzone to end a Colt scoring threat. Another Marian drive was stopped deep in Thorpe territory when Pete McGuire forced and recovered a fumble. In all the freshman Red Swarm forced five turnovers. Olympian Joel Nieves scored on defense when he recorded a safety on an attempted punt. Congratulations to the freshman team.

Freshmen Even Record at 3-3

The Olympian Freshman Football Team has evened its record at 3-3 following 2 dominate performances against Minersville.  Last week the Freshman shut out Minersville at home 14-0. They followed that with an impressive 26-6 win at Minersville earlier this week. The Special Teams set the tone on the opening kickoff. The Miner return man fumbled and Ryan “Frenchy” Boileau scooped up the loose ball returning it all the way for an Olympian TD. The Thorpe defense dominated the Miners lead by Joel Nieves. Nieves recorded multiple sacks and punished ball carriers all evening. On offense, Shawn McHose scored on a 30 yd run and Terry Moll scored twice (once on a kickoff return and on a reception from QB Sean Green). The Freshman look to continue their momentum when they play at Pocono Mtn West next Tuesday.
